Service challenge

We are inviting the participants to innovate new service concepts and solutions by applying service design methods. Day one will about service design thinking, getting ready to innovate, listening and tuning the tools. Days two and three will be about learning, using the tools and maybe even developing new ones. We'll invite 15 participants to each workshop to create new service solutions and concepts. Each workshop will receive a SERVICE CHALLENGE that they will be working with. The service challenges are real cases given us by our co-operatives. Each workshop will have 2 design students and 2 tourism students as assistants during the workshop.

This service design experience is free of charge. We'll enroll 45 participants to the workshops. You can sign up to minna.merivalo@savonia.fi

Well-being, experience design and service design

Service design gives a new kind of approach for creating new leisure experiences and for developing new service environments that support well-being. Service design utilizes the tools of the human centered design process, experience prototyping, context mapping, body storming, scenario based design and many other tools and methods to create or co-create usable, functional, accessible, valued, aesthetic and desirable services.

This interactive conference will focus on three themes:
  • New mobile service platforms and user interface concepts that increase well-being
  • Increasing the accessibility of leisure and tourism environments with technological solutions
  • Fusion of experience design and service design - new tools for interactive service experiences
Conference will be structured around keynote presentations on the 7th of September and continuing with three practical service design workshops during the 8th and the 9th of September. Keynotes will be delivered by service design professionals. We have already two confirmed keynote presenters: Professor Birgit Mager from KISD and Associate Professor Nicola Morelli from Aalbog University. Both will be also blogging here. The workshops will be run by the service designers and they will focus on service challenges matching the conference themes.
